Dec. 2 marked the grand opening of Mitzi’s First Impressions Hair Salon in DeLand.
Mitzi Caine, owner of the salon, has been an active member of the West Volusia community for more than 20 years. Although this salon has visited various parts of DeLand, it now has a new location to call home.
Caine has been a licensed cosmetologist since 1989 in St. Andrew, Jamaica, and has had a passion for enhancing the beauty of all during that time. She immigrated to Florida from St. Andrew in 1992 and, upon arrival, she had no hesitation in meeting the requirements to transition her career as a licensed cosmetologist.
“I’ve always had a passion to do hair. I love putting a smile on my client’s face and to make them feel special,“ said Caine.
Caine is an inspiration to many, with her unwavering efforts to build her business while meeting the needs of her clientele and the community.
“I’m inspired by my dad, who is 77 years old and still works. He has always taught me to work hard and always do my best,” she said.
This is the same work ethic she has shared with her eldest daughter, Kelsey Onfroy, who is now a licensed aesthetician, and her youngest daughter, Kyla Onfroy, who has become quite interested in the hair industry.
Kimeca Caine is a hairstylist at First Impressions, and has been a budding entrepreneur since she was a young adult, with experience as a home-based business owner early in her career. Her creative craft was recognized when she was given the opportunity to work and explore in a hair salon by her cousin Mitzi Caine. It was these efforts that propelled her next steps of success, including becoming a licensed cosmetologist in 2007.
“I enjoy the clients from all walks of life and their life stories that give me a glimpse of life experiences through their eyes,” said Kimeca.
Kimeca is a native of St. Andrew, and appreciates and embraces the diversity of the West Volusia community. She is a role model to many.
“I am inspired by my son, Jaydin. His presence in my life makes me strive to be my very best role model for him daily,” said Kimeca.
The grand opening of the new location at 640 W. New York Ave. was visited by more than 100 clients and friends throughout the day, who traveled from near and as far away as New York to show gratitude and support to these entrepreneurial women.
They specialize in hair extensions, relaxers, cuts, color, natural hair care, dreads, braids and more, and provide hair care for all hair types.
If you would like to know more, call 386-734-4906 or stop by the salon 10 a.m.-7 p.m. Tuesday-Saturday.
